VideoEgg is one of the latest web sites that allows web users to easily upload and share their video content with friends, family or the public. The video above was uploaded to the VideoEgg service in less than a minute over a standard broadband link ( 256Kbps uplink ), which considering the source data file was a 70Mb DV file captured direct from a digital camcorder is pretty impressive.

When you first register with VideoEgg you download and install a small application ( available for Windows and Mac OSX at present ) which allows you to upload video direct from a camcorder, web cam, file or even from a mobile phone ( requires video to be emailed to VideoEgg servers ). There is no need to create a copy of the source video and save it to your PC before uploading it with the VideoEgg service, it is all possible from within the VideoEgg web site, simply login, select the input source and upload. The compression to the web format displayed above is all done by your PC and it is this compressed version that is uploaded to VideoEgg, which is the opposite approach used by some of the competing services which require you to upload an original (much larger) file which is then compressed on the services servers before being published.

Once the video clip is uploaded to VideoEgg you have the option of automatically posting it to your Blogger site, a TypePad site or Ebay. Alternatively you can email a link or cut and paste a HTML snippet into another web site/blog tool. The resulting video clip is then displayed in your site for all to see. Clips are stored indefinitely and do not take up space on your web server.
