Do You Twitter ?

Unless you have been living under a rock for the last few months you can’t fail to have heard about Twitter. Twitter is a micro-blogging application that lets its users post short updates about what they are doing, where they have just been, interesting web sites they have just found and anything else that you could possibly think of. Unlike its main rival Facebook, Twitter does not try to be anything other than this, although this isn’t to say that an entire industry of addon applications and web sites hasn’t sprung up to fill in any gaps and try to make more of the limitations of the 140 character post which is the maximum imposed by the service.

The mainstream press have begun to catch on the the phenomenon and have helped to launch the service into the wider audience that it enjoys today extending the reach well beyond the web-geeks who popularised the service in the early days. Now just about anyone who is anyone has a Twitter account and celebrities and big businesses alike have realised that Twitter can be a powerful tool to engage and involve fans and customers in the message that they are trying to deliver.

Amongst the biggest names to have really embraced Twitter are British celebs such as Stephen Fry and Robert Llewellyn. Stephen Fry in fact is one of the services most widely followed members having an audience in excess of 360,000, a figure which is growing at a staggering daily rate.

Outside of the tech community there is now a growing number of people using the service as a quick way of communicating with friends, creating new communities of like minded individuals and advertising new blog posts and services. Across the Shropshire region there are a number of bloggers, individuals and businesses now using the service, some of which are listed below. If you would like to be added to this list post a comment and I will add you to the list ( and to my friends list )…

For most people the choice is between staying at home in safety and struggling for hours to get to work at the same time as risking the inevitable fender-bender…. Has to be said that the obvious choice is to let the kids have a day in the snow and stay at home.
