Telford and Wrekin is a local authority formed in 1998 from the district of Shropshire known as the Wrekin. It covers the areas surrounding Telford town, including Dawley, Newport, Oakengates and Wellington urban districts, Wellington Rural District and part of Shifnal parish in the Shifnal Rural District.

Telford is home to a wide variety of industries. Over 200 large companys such as Epson, Samsung etc have bases in one or more of the areas many industrial parks which are also home to more than 4,000 small to medium sized businesses.

Cap Gemini have a large presence within the Town where the service that manages the UK tax services are based.
